The houses compete on the basis of affordability\, consumer appeal\, energy production\, and efficiency.  The event also features free consumer and building industry workshops.\n  Details at www.solardecathlon.gov/event_schedule.html\n    \n 21st Annual Tour of Solar Homes\n  (DC\, Maryland\, and Virginia)\n  Saturday & Sunday\, October 1-2\, 2011\, 11am - 5pm\n  \n Houses and buildings with many solar\, wind\, energy efficient\, and environmentally friendly features will be open to the public on the first weekend in October.
